(Baonghean.vn) - The population of Sa Mu Dau with dozens of trees with the largest diameter up to 3.7 m, dozens of people cannot hug around, is located in the middle of the vast forest in Pu Hoat Nature Reserve, Que Phong border district (Nghe An).

Pu Hoat Nature Reserve is one of three areas in the Western Nghe An Biosphere Reserve, where a large area of primeval forest in Vietnam is still preserved, with a high level of biodiversity, and is a key area.with typical ecosystems of the Northwest Nghe An region and the Northern Truong Son range.There are hundreds of rare species of flora and fauna here.

Notably, along the Vietnam - Laos border is a population of cassia trees distributed in majestic natural forests located in a tropical area mixed between broadleaf and coniferous trees. The number of cassia populations here can initially be divided into 7 areas with thousands of trees. Among them, there are trees with a diameter of up to 3.7m and a height of 50-60m. There are 56 cassia trees that have been honored as Vietnam Heritage trees.

Sa mu dau is a large tree species, not only symbolizing Pu Hoat flora, or the Western Nghe An biosphere reserve, but also symbolizing flora of the Northern Truong Son range and Vietnam. This tree species not only has scientific value, genetic resources, as well as economic value, but it also creates cultural and spiritual influences associated with the lives of ethnic minorities in the border area.
