Vietnamese version of 'Beauty and the Beast' brings tears to the audience

“200 Pounds Beauty” by director James Ngo, which bought the copyright from the Korean film “200 Pounds Beauty”, was released on August 4 and brought many tears to the audience.

“Beauty of a Thousand Pounds” is about a chubby girl with a beautiful voice that touches the hearts of the audience named Ha My (Minh Hang). Because of her chubby body, she can only stand behind the stage to lip-sync for Jolie (Phuong Trinh Jolie) – a sexy girl but does not have a good voice to become a singer – to shine.

Because her appearance is not as “neat” as other girls in showbiz, Ha My always has to endure people’s sarcastic words and Jolie’s humiliating actions towards her. What makes Ha My feel moved and try to sing with all her soul is the attention of a handsome music producer named Khang (Rocker Nguyen).

Only when she found out that Khang was taking advantage of her, Ha My decided to have complete plastic surgery to become a beautiful singer who had just returned to Vietnam from the US - Lily.

Minh Hang, Rocker Nguyen, Phuong Trinh Jolie... were very successful in expressing the personality and emotions of each character.

With her extensive acting experience, Minh Hang portrayed Ha My’s emotions before and after the plastic surgery. Ha My’s tears of surprise and happiness when she saw herself in the mirror after the surgery were expressed very naturally by Minh Hang.

Lily's emotions when standing on stage to tell the truth that she had plastic surgery and singing with the encouragement of her mentally ill father and thousands of audiences were also fully expressed by Minh Hang.

For the first time entering the acting field, Rocker Nguyen surprised the audience when he successfully played the role of Khang - a talented, cold and passionate music producer.

Phuong Trinh Jolie plays Minh Hang's rival in the movie named Jolie, who has a hot body but a terrible singing voice.

“Beauty of a Thousand Pounds” has been very successful in conveying to the audience the message: “Having beauty is an advantage in today's society, but talent and inner beauty are the most important factors!”

The audience gave the film a lot of praise.

However, the film was not highly appreciated for its music. The song “Muon co anh” performed by Minh Hang was considered not to be enough for the ending of the film. The scenes where Lily sang on stage were too loud, not highlighting the character’s voice.

“Beauty and the Beast” will be shown in cinemas nationwide from August 4.
