Will Samsung kill the Galaxy Note line?

A source from Korea suggests that Samsung is thinking about killing the Note line, and changing the direction of the S line to fill the remaining void.

After the Note 7 fiasco, Samsung will need a "big" Galaxy S8, both literally and figuratively.

Forbes quoted a source from Naver, Korea, Samsung will change its strategy next year. Accordingly, they will increase the size of the Galaxy S8 with a 5-inch screen, while the Galaxy S8 Plus has a 6-inch screen.

That's larger than the 5.7-inch Note 7 from 2016, but rumors suggest that future Galaxy generations will feature a bezel-less design, similar to Xiaomi's Mi Mix (China).

Therefore, the 6-inch S8 screen may not be too large in size compared to its predecessors.

The report claims that both versions of the S8 will have curved displays, similar to previous rumors that Samsung would completely abandon flat-screen versions.

The interesting thing about this decision is that it puts a stamp on the Note line, which has always been defined by its screen size. Even with last year’s Note 7, people were saying that the line between Samsung’s two high-end lines was blurring.

Now, with the S8 Plus being the size of the Note line, and the brand name of the device being tarnished, it's likely that the Note 8 will never see the light of day.

Both S8s are likely to be unveiled in April in New York. Forbes believes that Samsung has figured out a way to fix the Note 7 battery problem, and is focusing on the upcoming S8.

Huawei and Xiaomi have also launched highly-regarded curved-screen devices in recent times, and Samsung has been forced to change to survive. A device similar to the Note 7 and without a bezel is a remarkable idea.
