On the morning of June 16, Tan Son Nhat air traffic control station was interrupted due to air traffic interference. Many flights were unable to land at this airport.

Speaking to VnExpress, a leader of the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation said that from 6:47 a.m. to 7:05 a.m. on June 16, Tan Son Nhat Air Traffic Control Station experienced interference on all channels due to a strange signal source. This incident caused the air traffic control station's flight operations to be interrupted.

"We have contacted the Radio Frequency Management Department to investigate where the frequency is coming from. Initial assessment is that this is a relatively strong source of waves, covering the operating frequencies of the control station," said the leader of the flight management agency.

The leader of the Air Traffic Management Corporation said that during the time of interference, there were 6 long-haul aircraft arriving and 3 flights preparing to land in the Tay Son Nhat flight area. The air traffic control station requested these planes to hold flights, including one flight that had to change direction to land.

The incident caused Jetstar Pacific flight BL591 from Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City, which was scheduled to land at Tan Son Nhat airport at 8:30 a.m., to divert to Buon Ma Thuot airport. The plane then took off again at 9:10 a.m. and landed at Tan Son Nhat airport at 10:05 a.m. This incident also delayed Jetstar flights throughout the day.

According to Jetstar representative, when there is an air traffic incident, planes at the airport must temporarily stop taking off, planes preparing to land must circle or land at another alternate airport depending on the amount of fuel and the pilot's decision.

In November 2014, Tan Son Nhat Air Traffic Control Station suffered a power outage due to a UPS system fire, disrupting flight operations and affecting dozens of flights.
