Playground of cheap cars?
At the Vietnam Motor Show 2017 (VMS 2017) taking place from August 1-5, 2017 in Ho Chi Minh City, there were 12 automobile brands in Vietnam participating.
Vietnam Motor Show 2017 (VMS 2017) features 70 car models from 12 car brands currently present in Vietnam including: Chevrolet, Ford, Do Thanh, Fuso, Honda, Isuzu, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Suzuki and Toyota.
Compared to previous years, this year’s exhibition took place 2 months earlier and VMS 2017 also did not have the participation of Truong Hai, the unit distributing Mazda and Kia cars in Vietnam. However, according to the Organizing Committee, Truong Hai’s absence will not reduce the attraction of the exhibition.

Up to now, brands have also begun to reveal information about their booths and products at VMS 2017.
Notably, the new car models that the brands will introduce at the Exhibition include: the new C-Class, GLA 2018 of Mercedes-Benz Vietnam; Toyota will introduce 2 low-cost car models: Toyota in the low-cost car segment, Toyota Avanza targeting the B-class MPV segment or the high-end MPV Alphard; Nissan Vietnam will bring a collection of 5 high-end Nissan models including Sunny, Teana, X-Trail and Navara; Suzuki is the Celerio model; Honda is the Jazz/Fit 2018 model...
According to many experts, in the current market context, the Vietnam Auto Show 2017 is not only an opportunity for companies to introduce and survey customers' opinions on new car models that may be launched and sold in the Vietnamese market, but it is also an opportunity to increase sales and find partners. Companies can directly offer the best incentives, prices and advice to customers. Conversely, customers can also directly experience the car models they are interested in or new car models to make the most appropriate decision for themselves.
Mr. Nguyen The H. (a sales staff of a car company with many years of participating in exhibitions) said that when participating in the exhibition, all companies bring their most unique and typical products. Besides, with a large number of visitors (in 2016, there were 146 visitors in 5 days), finding car sales contracts is what many companies aim for.
"Playground" of popular car models?
Through the information revealed by the companies, it can be seen that the focus of most of the booths of many brands at the Vietnam Auto Show 2018 is on popular small-sized and affordable car models.
Specifically, Toyota will bring two models Toyota Wigo in the low-cost car segment and Toyota Avanza targeting the B-class MPV segment. Both models have been launched in the Indonesian market with quite cheap prices: Wigo - about 240 million VND and Avanza priced at 307 million VND.

If these models arrive in Vietnam in 2018 (import tax for ASEAN cars reduced to 0% under the AFTA Agreement), both models will cost less than 500 million VND.
As for Honda, the highlight of the booth at this exhibition is likely to be the Jazz/Fit 2017 model. This is a car model that is quite attractive to Vietnamese people because of its beautiful design and a reasonable price of about 400 - 500 million VND in Thailand (if it comes to Vietnam in 2018, this car model will only cost about 600 million VND).

Meanwhile, Suzuki will bring a low-cost car model - Celerio. Currently, Celerio is priced in Thailand at about 230 million.
Through this, we can also see that companies are taking new “steps” to prepare to welcome 2018 when taxes and fees have many changes. Instead of focusing on large-capacity and high-priced cars, companies choose cheap models with small cylinder capacity (under 2.0) to enjoy tax and fee incentives.
