Electricity consumption in Nghe An hits record high during heat wave
(Baonghean.vn) - During the recent extreme heat wave, Nghe An's electricity consumption increased to a record high, more than 10% compared to the peak in 2018.
According to data from the Nghe An electricity sector, the recent heat wave has seen the load increase surpassing the peak of 2018 in both capacity and consumption. The province’s highest daily electricity consumption was 14.7 million kWh, up 10.2% compared to 2018.
Statistics show that every year, electricity consumption in Nghe An continuously increases by about 12 - 15%.
In the first 6 months of 2018, the consumption was 1,501 million kWh; in the first 6 months of 2019, it was 1,645 million kWh, an increase of 9.5%; On average, in June 2019, the total electricity consumption of the whole province was about 13 million kWh/day; in total, in June 2019, the consumption was 338 million kWh.

The areas with the highest electricity consumption in Nghe An are Vinh city, Quynh Luu, Do Luong, Nghi Loc, Dien Chau districts, Cua Lo town and Hoang Mai town. These are areas with many industrial parks and large factories.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Dung- Deputy Head of the Control Department, Nghe An Electricity Company said: On normal days, the average electricity consumption reaches 9-10 million kWh/day. However, during the recent intense and prolonged hot days, the amount of electricity consumed in the province increased dramatically. Especially on June 29, 2019, the system's maximum capacity reached 691 Mw, an increase of 9.6% compared to the peak capacity in 2018.

Although the power system is currently operating stably, all sources and grid systems meet the needs of daily life and production; but when the severe heat lasts for a long time, the demand for electricity increases dramatically, mainly due to the use of air conditioners and cooling equipment increasing very high, leading to the risk of full load and local grid overload in some areas... Therefore, it is necessary to limit the use of electricity during peak hours to avoid grid overload causing incidents.
In agencies and offices, it is necessary to use electricity economically and effectively. Especially when using air conditioners, it is necessary to keep them in optimal mode, only set at 26 degrees Celsius or higher, to both ensure electricity savings and minimize the risk of local overload of the power grid./.
