Talking about this project, teacher Nguyen Kieu Hoa (Physics teacher) was particularly impressed with her student Nguyen Trong Khanh Huy because he was the first person to come up with the idea: At the beginning of the new school year, right after the opening ceremony, Khanh Huy met me directly and expressed his desire to make a solar generator. At first, when talking about this topic, I didn't really pay attention because solar generators are not strange in the current market. But then, after his presentation, I was convinced by the new ideas that the students brought.
To carry out this project, Khanh Huy and Khoi Nguyen only spent one month preparing. Then, with the support of the Physics teacher, the project won first prize in the city-level Science and Technology Innovation Competition. When it came to the provincial round, despite facing a lot of pressure, Khanh Huy and Khoi Nguyen's presentation convinced the judges and was one of the best projects of the competition. Coming to the national competition, Khanh Huy said: Through three competitions, my project had to be adjusted many times in terms of technique as well as image. However, I am very confident because during the implementation process, I always received support from the school, teachers and my family...
Hong Son Secondary School is also one of the schools in Vinh city that has a tradition of participating in creative competitions on Science and Technology and almost every year wins prizes at the city and provincial levels. Talking about the honor of being selected to participate in this national Science and Technology competition, teacher Pham Van Hai - Principal of the school said: The Science and Technology Competition is an extremely useful playground for students, a measure to evaluate the teaching and learning process at school, fueling the passion for scientific and technological creativity... Particularly at Hong Son Secondary School, the competition was successful because the creative works were from the students, they came up with the ideas and proactively implemented them.
At high school level, the topic "Combining chitin extraction from shrimp shells and producing organic fertilizer from household waste" by Ha Gia Bao, class 12 A1 - Cua Lo High School is also completing the final experimental steps. Following Bao's implementation process, the implementation steps are not much different from the provincial competition. However, talking to him, we found that to complete this topic, Bao had to spend nearly half a year preparing. During that time, he also failed countless times because the finished product did not meet expectations. Sharing about this topic, Bao is very enthusiastic because it is related to the characteristics of his locality. Moreover, if applied in practice, it will achieve a "2 in 1" effect, both creating raw materials and being used by farmers in cultivation: Fishing and seafood processing are traditional occupations of Cua Lo town. However, one of the current shortcomings is that waste treatment still faces many difficulties, causing environmental pollution and urban aesthetics. His topic will be Utilizing waste sources to produce chitin, which is widely used in fields such as medicine, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. In addition, utilizing other waste products to create organic fertilizers.
Prepare the best conditions for the big festival
The 2018 National Science and Technology Innovation Competition officially opened in Vinh City on Saturday (March 10, 2018). As the chosen host, Nghe An province's preparations began in mid-2017. Over the past 6 months, as the host, the Department of Education and Training has established a steering committee with the participation of provincial departments, agencies and branches. In addition, subcommittees for propaganda, reception, emulation and rewards have also been established with the aim of preparing the best conditions for the competition to take place smoothly. Currently, up to this point, when the competition is only counting by days, the preparations have basically been completed. According to the plan, during the 4 days of organization (from March 10 to 13, 2018), the competition will take place at 3 main locations: Labor Culture House, Giao Te Hotel Conference Center, Vinh University. To facilitate the preparation for the participating teams, the Department of Education and Training has coordinated with the City Department of Education and Training to establish a volunteer team of nearly 80 people who are officials and teachers of kindergartens, primary schools, and secondary schools in the city. During the competition, volunteers will accompany the teams to support in travel, accommodation, and transportation.
Sharing about the honor of participating as a volunteer, teacher Ho Thi Hai - Doi Cung Secondary School said: Before participating as a volunteer, we were trained and familiarized with the work, so we were really excited and interested in this job. I think that participating in the competition as a member of the organizing committee is an opportunity for us to experience, demonstrate the spirit of hospitality and also an opportunity to exchange and learn with colleagues... Determining that the science and technology innovation competition is also an opportunity to promote and introduce the image of the province, the Organizing Committee has also provided a handbook for volunteers. On that basis, it will introduce the land, people and famous places and landscapes for delegations to visit and learn.
In preparation for the Science and Technology Innovation Competition, many interesting and useful "side" activities will also be organized such as the Science and Technology Innovation Experience Workshop in the direction of student development and capacity, and exchanges between participating units. Mr. Vo Van Mai - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee of the Competition said: Before hosting the National Science and Technology Competition for high school students, Northern Region in 2018, Nghe An had experience and was highly appreciated after successfully organizing the National Phu Dong Sports Festival in 2016. Currently, although the preparation work is urgent, we believe that we will do our job well to help the competition take place successfully and leave a good impression and memory for the delegations when coming to Nghe An.
