Immediately after the news of the hydroelectric dam collapse in Attapeu province, Laos, on July 24, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Tran Dai Quang and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent telegrams of condolences to General Secretary and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachit and Prime Minister of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh sent a message of sympathy to Lao Foreign Minister Xam-lom-xay Com-ma-xit.

On the same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had a phone call with Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith and affirmed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam are ready to support the Lao people to overcome the consequences.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has directed Vietnamese representative agencies in Laos to closely monitor the situation and coordinate closely with local authorities to update information about Vietnamese people or overseas Vietnamese in the affected areas, and be ready to provide support measures in case anyone is affected.
