On the morning of August 28th, the appeal hearing for the Vinashin irregularities case took place.
According to information from the People's Court of Hai Phong City, on the morning of August 28th, the Supreme People's Court will hold an appeal hearing at the People's Court of Hai Phong City to try the case of intentionally violating State regulations on economic management causing serious consequences at the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin), based on the appeals of the defendants.

The trial was presided over by Judge Dao Thi Nga, Deputy Chief Judge of the Appellate Court of the Supreme People's Court. At the appellate stage, 19 lawyers participated in defending the defendants who filed appeals.
According to the first-instance judgment dated March 30th by the People's Court of Hai Phong City, the panel of judges sentenced nine defendants in this case as follows: Pham Thanh Binh to 20 years imprisonment; Tran Van Liem to 19 years imprisonment; To Nghiem to 18 years imprisonment; Nguyen Van Tuyen to 16 years imprisonment; Trinh Thi Hau to 14 years imprisonment; Hoang Gia Hiep to 13 years imprisonment; Tran Quang Vu to 11 years imprisonment; and Do Dinh Con to 10 years imprisonment for intentionally violating State regulations on economic management causing serious consequences, as stipulated in Clause 3, Article 165 of the Penal Code.
Defendant Nguyen Tuan Duong alone received a 3-year prison sentence for the crime of "Illegal use of property" as stipulated in Clause 3, Article 142 of the Penal Code.
Following the trial, in addition to defendant Nguyen Tuan Duong, the remaining eight defendants filed appeals with the Supreme People's Court requesting a reduction in their sentences.
The trial is scheduled to take place over three days, from August 28-30.
