(Baonghean.vn) - 87 years ago, with a strong offensive spirit, our people created an extremely strong revolutionary movement - the revolutionary movement of 1930 - 1931 with the peak being the Nghe - Tinh Soviet.

The global economic crisis and natural disasters have severely impacted the socio-economic situation in Vietnam. The lives of the working class are extremely miserable. In addition, the brutal arrests and repressions of the colonial government took place throughout the country, especially after the Yen Bai uprising of the Vietnam Nationalist Party, making the political atmosphere in Vietnam even more stifling. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the people's struggle movement flared up strongly and reached its peak in the two provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh.

On the morning of May 1, 1930, with the participation of workers in Vinh - Ben Thuy industrial park and farmers from neighboring districts, they demanded salary increase, reduced working hours, abolished poll tax, reduced taxes, fought against terrorism, supported the struggle of workers at Nam Dinh textile factory, and supported the Soviet Union.

From May to August 1930, in the Nghe - Tinh region, there were 97 strikes and demonstrations by workers and farmers. On August 1, 1930, the movement developed to a new level: Workers in the Vinh - Ben Thuy industrial zone went on general strike, marking "a new period, a period of fierce struggle has come". In harmony with the workers' movement, Nghe - Tinh farmers organized many armed self-defense demonstrations in the districts of Can Loc (August 4), Nam Dan (August 6 and 30), Thanh Chuong (August 12), Nghi Loc (August 29) and spread to almost all districts in the two provinces.

From September 1930, large-scale armed self-defense demonstrations combined with consecutive political demands broke out by farmers in Nam Dan, Thanh Chuong, Can Loc, Hung Nguyen districts...

The peak was the demonstration on September 12, 1930 of 8,000 Hung Nguyen farmers (Nghe An) responding to the struggle of farmers in the districts and the strike of Vinh - Ben Thuy workers, protesting against the terrorist policy of the imperialists and feudal lackeys.

The French colonialists suppressed 217 people, injured 125 people, making the people extremely indignant. During September - October 1930, farmers in Thanh Chuong, Dien Chau (Nghe An), Huong Son (Ha Tinh) districts launched armed uprisings, workers in Vinh - Ben Thuy industrial zone continued to strike, making the movement more intense.

Before the collapse of the colonial and feudal government in Nghe - Tinh, the Party cells and the Red Peasant Association promptly led the masses to exercise their right to mastery, to manage their own lives, and implicitly performed the duties of the people's government in the Soviet form.

The Soviet government was formed in communes of Thanh Chuong and Nam Dan districts, part of Anh Son, Nghi Loc, Hung Nguyen, and Dien Chau districts (Nghe An); and in Ha Tinh, in communes of Can Loc, Nghi Xuan, and Huong Khe districts.

The Soviet government promulgated and implemented many policies and guidelines that brought many fundamental and legitimate benefits to the people: Politically, people have the right to freely assemble, discuss and operate in mass organizations such as Farmers' Associations, Trade Unions, Communist Youth Unions, etc.

Economically, the people were given land, unreasonable and unjust taxes were abolished, rent was reduced and debts were forgiven for the poor. Culturally, the revolutionary government organized a new way of life, opened classes to teach the national language, eliminated social evils and bad customs, and built a spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance.

The Nghe-Tinh Soviet government clearly demonstrated its revolutionary nature and superiority - it was truly a government of the people, by the people and for the people. As the first worker-peasant government in our country, the Nghe-Tinh Soviet government became a rallying flag and a strong source of encouragement for the working masses throughout the country. Everywhere in the struggles, in addition to political slogans, there were also slogans supporting the Nghe-Tinh Soviet and supporting the Soviet Union.

The revolutionary climax of 1930 - 1931 was a major historical event in the history of the Vietnamese revolution under the leadership of the Communist Party. The revolutionary climax and the birth of the Soviet government were the crystallization of the great strength of the worker-peasant alliance led by the working class, which dealt the first decisive blow to the imperialist and feudal lackeys.

Although the Nghe - Tinh Soviet government only existed for 7 months and was still in its infancy, it left good marks as the first worker-peasant state, unprecedented in history, responding to the burning desire for independence and freedom of the enslaved people.

Assessing the great historical significance of the revolutionary movement of 1930 - 1931, President Ho Chi Minh wrote: "Although the French imperialists suppressed that movement in a sea of blood, the Nghe - Tinh Soviets demonstrated the heroic spirit and revolutionary capacity of the Vietnamese working people. Although the movement failed, it trained the forces for the later victorious August Revolution."

The revolutionary climax of 1930 - 1931, culminating in the Nghe - Tinh Soviets, was truly the first rehearsal of our people under the leadership of the Party, preparing for the victory of the August Revolution in 1945.

87 years have passed, the flame of the Nghe-Tinh Soviets in the 1930s still shines brightly in the heroic epic of the Vietnamese revolution. The spirit of the Nghe-Tinh Soviets always accompanies our people today to overcome difficulties and challenges to build Vietnam "more dignified, more beautiful" as President Ho Chi Minh instructed.
