Enlighten the heart and responsibility of teachers
(Baonghean)- Nghe An has always been honored as a land of learning, one of the traditional educational cradles of the whole country. That tradition has contributed significantly to teachers striving to always be examples of "self-study and creative ethics", truly both red and professional, trusted and entrusted by students, parents and the whole society.
Bright heart
Teacher Hoang Ky is 83 years old this year. He has been retired for more than 20 years, but his small house in Quang Tien block, Hung Binh ward (Vinh city) has never been without students. Almost all of the students who come to him have special circumstances, including many orphans and poor families. Taking care of this free class is truly the joy and happiness of teacher Hoang Ky.

In 1988, after retiring from Huynh Thuc Khang High School (Vinh City), teacher Hoang Ky and his colleagues opened Nguyen Truong To High School. This was the first private model in the province at that time. During his 18 years as Vice Principal of this school, he was most concerned about the quality of students. Many students, because of poor academic performance and not being able to keep up with their friends, were discouraged, leading to dropping out of school and becoming disobedient. Based on this reality, after retiring, he decided to open a tutoring class at home, with the main purpose of tutoring, helping weak students consolidate their knowledge, creating confidence and interest in learning.
The first class opened in the early 2000s. Since then, dozens of generations of students have been directly guided and taught by teacher Hoang Ky, and many of them have graduated and passed the entrance exams to many prestigious universities. He shared: Every teacher wants students to study well and well. In reality, for many different reasons, there are still many students who cannot keep up with the program. A dedicated teacher must not behave in a way that creates a feeling of distance towards students like that. On the contrary, they need to be close, wholeheartedly encourage and help. I accept tutoring for weak students to improve, there are many difficulties and hardships, but when I achieve results, I am many times happier.

In fact, to fulfill the responsibility of a teacher in the current context of schools and the country's education sector in general is not easy; if the teacher does not face the real difficulties and constantly improve his/her professional qualities, overcoming his/her limitations.
Ms. Vo Thi Thuy Linh, English teacher at Nguyen Truong To High School (Hung Nguyen) shared: “In the recent high school exam, Nguyen Truong To High School (Hung Nguyen) had 252 students taking the Foreign Language exam but only 7 students got 5 points. I was very sad and reflected on my responsibilities. Maybe, the students' abilities are limited, but if we were more attentive, dedicated, and provided more suitable lesson plans and teaching programs, the results would certainly be much better. This is also a lesson for us to seriously learn from experience and have more practical solutions for this school year.”
Teacher Hoang Viet Thang, Head of the Physics Group at Nguyen Truong To High School (Vinh City) confided: “Pressure always weighs heavily on schools with low enrollment. In our school, most students have average academic performance, and many are even weak. That also affects their personalities, many of them are rebellious and difficult to manage... In that situation, teachers who come to school and only “know how to teach words” will fail. We have to grasp, understand the psychology of each student and gradually correct them. Teach people, teach how to behave, then consider teaching words and knowledge”…
Traditional molding
At Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, the top quality school in the province, teachers are always concerned about their responsibilities as teachers. Talking about this, teacher Tran Thi Minh Nguyet, a Russian teacher, has not forgotten her difficulties 12 years ago when she was transferred from an English teacher to teach Russian at a specialized school: “At that time, I was very worried because I had not used Russian for 15 years.

Many times I wanted to give up. Later, many people asked me what helped me overcome that difficulty. I must say that I had to think a lot about the heart of a teacher, the responsibility of teaching so that students would be attached to the subject, to the school, to the class. From there, I determined that I had to make an effort to improve my expertise and complete my teaching tasks"...
At Nghi Tan Primary School (Cua Lo Town), there is a special class for students with disabilities. This is also the only school in the province implementing this model. Thereby, creating opportunities for less fortunate students to go to school and study in an integrated manner with all normal students. Teacher Nguyen Tien Minh, Principal of the school said: "Previously, when we decided to ask for permission from the Department to open this class, we were very concerned because for a long time, students with disabilities often studied separately in special schools...
Overcoming difficulties, thanks to the determination and efforts of the school's staff and teachers, the class for disabled students has gradually stabilized and gained the trust of parents in the area. Many parents in neighboring communes of Nghi Loc district such as Nghi Thiet, Nghi Hop, Nghi Quang have also come to ask for their children to study. Even up to this point, there are children who are 15, 16 years old, but their parents still hope that the school will let them stay and continue studying.
Talking about her job, Ms. Luu Thi Hue, the teacher in charge of the special class, shared: “When I first received the decision to teach in this class, I couldn’t sleep all night and I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to teach students with this special background. But the more I got involved with the class, the more I loved this job. Because even though the students have many cognitive limitations, they are very emotional; they always want to go to school and learn to read and write. The teachers are dedicated and love the students, so the students love and respect them, are obedient, and try to improve”...
There are many more concerns and heartfelt sharing from teachers. At present, the country's education is receiving great attention from the whole society, especially when the education sector is promoting fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training; there are many viewpoints and perspectives on the difficulties and limitations in education that need to be urgently resolved... That context, first of all, requires the heart and responsibility of teachers standing on the podium to be even more serious.
