Comet 45P/Honda-Mrkos-Pajdušáková will pass right next to the crescent moon on the night of December 31 and will be visible with binoculars, Good Magazine reported. The comet passes through the inner solar system every five years and has a brilliant blue and green head. It will start to become visible on the western horizon on December 15.
"On New Year's Eve, a comet and a crescent moon will appear in tandem to say goodbye to 2016," said NASA.
December also marks several important astronomical events such as the Ursid and Geminid meteor showers along with a large supermoon.
