David Silva and Diego Costa both scored in Spain's 2-1 win in Macedonia.

Goals: Ritovski 66' - Silva 15', Costa 27'

Midfielder David Silva, returning from Man City, shone in the 15th minute with a turn and a shot to open the scoring. Shortly after, from Isco's cross, Diego Costa finished close to the goal to double Spain's lead.

Efforts in the remaining time were not enough for Macedonia to get a point. The home team only scored a consolation goal thanks to right midfielder Stefan Ritovski.

The win in Macedonia was Spain's fifth in the European World Cup qualifiers. With 16 points from six matches, Julen Lopetegui's team once again maintained their top position in Group G.

Italy continued to rank second due to the same number of points but a lower goal difference than Spain (14-18). In the match at the same time, the Blues defeated Liechtenstein with a score of 5-0 but it was not enough to level the gap with the leading team.

Each European qualifying group has only one direct ticket to the World Cup for the top team. The second-placed team must participate in a play-off for a remaining ticket.

Spain and Italy drew 1-1 in the first leg of the group stage. The two teams will play the return leg on September 3, in Spain.
