Young Ajax star permanently brain dead, living a vegetative life after stroke
Another sad day for world football as the bright young talent Abdelhak Nouri (Netherlands) could not wake up. His brain was dead.
Abdelhak Nouri suffered a stroke while playing
On its official Twitter account, Ajax Amsterdam Club sadly announced: player Abdelhak Nouri's brain suffered permanent damage due to lack of oxygen after a stroke on July 8 and he will have to live a vegetative life.
In response to the bad news, director Edwin van der Sar shared: "This is the worst news we could have received. Ajax expresses its sympathy to Nouri's parents, siblings and relatives. There are no words enough to describe the pain they are going through, although we know the worst possible scenario."
Five days ago, in the 72nd minute of a friendly match between Werder Bremen and Ajax, midfielder Abdelhak Nouri suddenly collapsed on the pitch and gasped for breath. Immediately, the referee stopped the match and called for help from the medical team.
Nouri was gasping for breath due to an irregular heartbeat. His brain was now severely damaged and he was in a vegetative state. |
After receiving first aid with massage and artificial respiration, the midfielder born in 1997 was taken to the hospital by helicopter. Abdelhak Nouri remained conscious for 10 minutes, then fell into a coma. Later tests showed that Nouri's brain was too damaged due to lack of oxygen for too long. It is known that the brain only needs 4 to 5 minutes of oxygen deprivation for brain cells to be destroyed and permanently damaged.
Before the accident, Abdelhak Nouri played for Ajax 2. From 2015 to now, the 20-year-old star has played 45 times, scored 11 goals and was voted the best player of the Dutch 2nd division last season.
