Four more marine protected areas are about to be established.

On the morning of August 28th, in Hanoi, Mr. Nguyen Huy Dien, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Fisheries, chaired a conference summarizing the "Project to enhance capacity and improve the legal framework for the network of marine protected areas in Vietnam". Attendees included representatives from the Danish Embassy in Vietnam, the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, and Quang Ngai provinces and cities, and several relevant departments and agencies.

On the morning of August 28th, in Hanoi, Mr. Nguyen Huy Dien, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Fisheries, chaired a conference summarizing the "Project to enhance capacity and improve the legal framework for the network of marine protected areas in Vietnam". Attendees included representatives from the Danish Embassy in Vietnam, the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, and Quang Ngai provinces and cities, and several relevant departments and agencies.


According to Mr. Nguyen Viet Cuong, the project director, the unit is coordinating with provinces to propose the establishment of four more Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). Specifically, these are Bach Long Vy (Hai Phong), Hon Me (Thanh Hoa), Ly Son (Quang Ngai), and Hai Van - Son Tra (Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang), bringing the total number of MPAs to 16.


It is expected that the Bach Long Vy and Hon Me Marine Protected Areas will become operational by the end of 2013. The project to promote the establishment of additional Marine Protected Areas was launched on June 1, 2012, with the Department of Fisheries Exploitation and Protection as the project owner, with a total ODA capital of 315,000 USD funded by Denmark and counterpart funds...
