After 18 years, Phan High School has won a medal in the International Mathematics Olympiad.

(Baonghean.vn) - After an 18-year wait, a mathematics student from Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted has won a medal at the International Olympiad.

The 56th International Mathematical Olympiad has just concluded in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Hoang Anh Tai (a 12th-grade student in class A1 - specializing in Mathematics, Phan Boi Chau High School for Gifted Students) excellently won a Silver medal for the Vietnamese team.

This year's competition saw participation from 106 countries. The Vietnamese delegation consisted of 6 students, and all 6 won medals, including 2 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal. With this result, Vietnam ranked 5th overall.

From 1989 to 1998, Mathematics was a strong point of Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School. However, due to various reasons, the school's achievements in Mathematics were interrupted for a period. After 18 years, Hoang Anh Tai's Silver Medal win marks the return of Mathematics and once again affirms the quality of teaching and learning at Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School.

Speaking about this achievement, teacher Dau Van Mui said: "This is a great gift, which is meaningful in encouraging the teaching and learning spirit of the school's teachers and shows that we have invested in the right direction to continue developing the strengths of mathematics in our province."

Hoang Anh Tai is a poor student from Yen Son commune, Do Luong district. Thirty years ago, also from this same area, student Tran Tuan Hiep had also excelled, winning a silver medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad.

It is expected that student Hoang Anh Tai and his teacher, Dau Hoang Hung, who directly taught and mentored him, will arrive back in Nghe An on the morning of July 16th. Three days ago, student Nguyen Ngoc Khanh, from class 12A3 of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, also won a Silver Medal at the International Physics Olympiad.
