Leaf rollers cause damage, farmers lack summer-autumn rice seedlings

(Baonghean.vn) - According to reports, many households in the communes of Tam Thai, Tam Dinh, Tam Quang... are seriously lacking rice seedlings.

Currently, people in some communes of the mountainous district of Tuong Duong such as Tam Thai, Tam Dinh, Tam Quang... have started planting the summer-autumn crop. However, many rice fields of people in these communes are seriously lacking seedlings. The reason is that leaf rollers and stem borers are damaging most of the young seedlings.

Accordingly, the area of ​​rice seedlings damaged by leaf rollers accounts for 20% of the total sown area. According to people's feedback, rice seedlings of previous summer-autumn crops were also damaged by leaf rollers, but the rate was not significant.

Mr. Lo Van Son, Head of Lung village, Tam Thai commune, said that the village has more than 28 hectares of wet rice production in the summer-autumn crop. To meet the crop schedule, many families have had to sow additional rice seedlings.

In 2017, people in communes of Tuong Duong district used two rice varieties, NA 2 and NA6./.
