In addition to the unusually high math scores of some candidates, the average math and physics scores of Son La province compared to the rest of the country also raised many questions.

After the exam score violations in Ha Giang, many people raised questions about some "strange" exam score cases in Son La province.

The province's math and physics exam scores are said to be problematic compared to the rest of the country.

Son La exam scores are suspicious

According to Professor Nguyen Van Tuan, Garvan Institute (Australia), analysis of exam score data of 10,387 candidates in Son La showed suspicious results, but the level was not as serious as in Ha Giang.

Specifically, on average, the Math, Physics, Chemistry and Biology scores of candidates in Son La province are lower than the national average.

For example, in Mathematics, the average score (standard deviation) of Son La is 3.43 (1.33), compared to the whole country's 4.88 (1.44). It is noteworthy that the standard deviation of Son La (1.33) is lower than the whole country's (1.44).

Note that in the Math and Physics charts, at scores of 9 and above, Son La's performance line "rises" while it should be the same as the whole country.

A more specific analysis using the above data table shows that Son La province has an unusually high number of candidates scoring from 9 to 9.8.

"If we follow the national distribution, we expect Son La Math to have 6 candidates with scores from 9 to 9.8, but in reality there are 30 candidates, which is 5 times higher than expected," Professor Tuan stated.

Similarly, in Physics, if according to the national distribution, Professor Tuan expected that Son La province would have 1 candidate with a score of 9 to 9.8, but in reality there were 13 candidates, 13 times higher.

Statistics from Son La province's exam score data also show that the number of candidates with scores of 8 or higher in Math, Physics, and English does not follow the general rule.

Statistics of the number of scores of 8 or higher in Math, Physics, and English in Son La province.

As a rule, the number of candidates with high scores should gradually decrease. But in Math, the number of candidates with 9.6 scores is almost equal to the number of candidates with 9 and 8 scores.

Similarly, in English, the number of candidates with a score of 9.6 is approximately equal to the number with a score of 9 and 8. In Physics, the number of candidates with a score of 9.5 is also slightly higher.

On social media, many people questioned the test scores of 11 candidates in Son La province. These candidates all had very high scores in Math, along with quite high scores in Social Science subjects.

11 candidates have "strange" math exam scores in Son La province.

Initial information, except for the candidate with registration number 14001... who only took the Math and Natural Science exams, the remaining 10 candidates all used the results of the Social Science exam to apply for university admission. Notably, these 10 candidates all had very high Math scores, all at 9.6 and 9.8.

But it is not impossible that there are candidates on the above list who will take university entrance exams based on a combination of Math, Literature, and English.

Evening of July 17, talking withZing.vnRegarding this issue, Mr. Pham Dang Quang, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Son La, said that if candidates get high scores in all subjects, it is a good thing.

"I think these cases are not strange, students who study well get high scores in all subjects. I also don't see any motives for these students and their university entrance exam combination is group C," said Mr. Quang.

Practice test 1.2 points, real test 9.8 points

Previously, many people questioned the case of 2 Son La candidates who were in the top 11 candidates with the highest scores in the 2018 National High School Exam of the Ministry of Education and Training. In particular, BN had the following scores in 6 subjects: Math 9.8; Literature 8.75; History 7.5; Geography 8.25; Civic Education 8; English 9.8.

It is worth mentioning that the patient's test scores at school were very low. According to the test scores that took place in March and were posted on the website of Ha Giang Specialized High School, the patient scored 5 in Math; 4 in Literature; 1.2 in English; 6.25 in History; 6.25 in Geography; and 5.25 in Civics.

The female student's English test score was only 1.2 but her real test score was up to 9.8.

Similarly, studying at the same school as BN is ND with exam scores of 6 subjects: Math 9.6; Literature 9.0; History 10; Geography 8.25; Civic Education 7.5; English 10. Average score 9.05.

This student's mock test scores in March were Math 6.4; Literature 6.5; English 5.8; History 5.5; Geography 4.25; Civics 5.5. Average score 5.08.

Previously, responding to these two cases, Mr. Pham Dang Quang, Deputy Director of the Son La Department of Education and Training, said he had received information that two candidates, BN and ND, had the highest national high school scores in the country but their previous mock test scores were low.

Mr. Quang said: "That is unofficial information. What does a low mock test score have to do with the real test score? Mock tests are the school's business."

Mr. Nguyen Binh Long - Vice Principal of Son La High School for the Gifted, Son La Province - said that this is not the first time the province's gifted school has had students with such high scores. Last year, the school had 10 students with 28.8 points.

Mr. Lo Thanh Son - ND's homeroom teacher - said that he studied well in all subjects, not the best in the class but in the top 5-7 students. ND's average GPA in grade 12 was about 8.4.

Teacher Lo Thanh Son explained that the mock test score (around March 17) was quite a long time before the real test (end of June), so D. focused on subjects that would increase his score.
