According to the newspaper, British Prime Minister Theresa May will hold a meeting of the National Security Council in the coming weeks to discuss information about possible actions by Russia against the UK and its allies, as well as possible countermeasures.
“There was agreement on the need for the Government to understand, assess and plan actions in response to Russian activity,” the newspaper quoted a senior source as saying, adding that the Russian Federation appeared to be conducting a subversive campaign against the UK, including through espionage, disinformation and cyber attacks.
However, the newspaper did not provide evidence for his claims. The document was released a day after US President Barack Obama said Russia was allegedly meddling in US politics, but did not provide any evidence linking Moscow to cyber attacks, citing security concerns.
Obama also avoided directly accusing Russian President Vladimir Putin, but he noted that in Russia, "few decisions get made" without Mr Putin.
