Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said he was ready to cede markets in the Middle East if Russia abandoned its support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

“We are ready to cede to Russia market share in the Middle East, which will make Russia stronger than the former Soviet Union,” the Saudi foreign minister said in an interview with the European edition of Politico.

According to Mr. Al-Dzhubeyra, Russia could gain access to the markets of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council member states, as well as open up investment opportunities in the region that surpass China's investment package.

“For Russia, it would be logical to say that our relationship will develop common interests and not with Assad,” the head of the Saudi Foreign Ministry said.
