Man Utd and Chicago Fire have completed a deal for Bastian Schweinsteiger to join the American team. Accordingly, the German midfielder will meet his new teammates next week without having to complete the current season with Man Utd. This is considered a solution that satisfies all parties when Schweinsteiger does not have many opportunities to contribute to the "Red Devils".
"I am sad to say goodbye to many friends at Man Utd," said the former Germany captain. "However, I am grateful to the club for giving me the opportunity to take up the Chicago Fire."
"I have enjoyed working with the manager, players and staff at Man Utd and wish them all the best for the future. I must leave a special thank you to the fans who have supported me during my time here. I was proud to be part of the team that won the FA Cup last season. Now a new chapter begins with Chicago and I can't wait."
Schweinsteiger has fallen out of favour since Jose Mourinho took over at Man Utd. The 2014 World Cup winner has made just four appearances this season compared to 31 under Louis van Gaal last year.
According to press reports, Schweinsteiger will receive $4.5 million for the remainder of 2017 at Chicago Fire.
