Binh Chanh District Police Chief will be suspended from work

The Ministry of Public Security and Ho Chi Minh City Police have agreed to temporarily suspend Colonel Nguyen Van Quy, Chief of Binh Chanh District Police - the person directly involved in the Xin Chao restaurant case.

On the morning of April 25, the Ministry of Public Security and Ho Chi Minh City Police held a meeting to discuss the handling of a number of Binh Chanh District Police officers involved in the criminal prosecution of Mr. Nguyen Van Tan, owner of Xin Chao Coffee Shop, for the crime of illegal business.

Accordingly, the meeting agreed to suspend Colonel Nguyen Van Quy, Chief of Binh Chanh District Police, and Mr. Nguyen Hoang Tuan (Deputy Head of Economic Management Crime Investigation Police).

Ho Chi Minh City Police also agreed to temporarily suspend Mr. Nguyen Tri Tien - Deputy Head of the Police Investigation Team for Economic Management Crimes, Binh Chanh District Police.

Mr. Tuan and Mr. Tien were identified as the officers who directly participated in the prosecution of the Xin Chao restaurant case. Colonel Quy was the one who signed the decision to prosecute the accused and concluded the investigation accusing Mr. Nguyen Van Tan - the owner of Xin Chao restaurant of the crime of illegal business.

Temporary suspension from work is considered the first step for Ho Chi Minh City Police to handle officers involved in violations during the prosecution of the Xin Chao case.

Ho Chi Minh City Police will decide on disciplinary action against Mr. Tuan and Mr. Tien. Colonel Nguyen Van Quy, Ho Chi Minh City Police will propose a disciplinary action and send it to the General Department of Politics of the Ministry of Public Security for consideration and decision.

In a related development, on the same morning, the People's Procuracy of Binh Chanh District sent a file to the People's Procuracy of Ho Chi Minh City regarding the case of the District Police requesting the prosecution of Mr. Nguyen Van Bi (48 years old) for violating housing regulations.

The People's Procuracy will review and re-evaluate the grounds of the case and announce the results as soon as possible. Ho Chi Minh City Police have also stepped in to review the process and grounds for handling Mr. Bi.
