83 pedestrian suspension bridges will be completed in 2014.
The remaining bridges out of a total of 186 will be completed in stages during the first quarter and early second quarter of 2015.
According to the Ministry of Transport, in July 2014, construction began on four pedestrian suspension bridges: Ban Com Bridge in Yen Bai province, Nam Cong Bridge in Ha Nam province, Ban Diem Bridge in Nghe An province, and Cho Moi Bridge in Bac Kan province.
Currently, contractors are rushing to develop construction plans, cast reinforced concrete piles, and prepare materials and equipment for fabricating the superstructure of the bridge at the workshop before complete installation at the site.
Local authorities in the area where the bridge is being constructed are also urgently carrying out land clearance and bomb and explosive ordnance removal to ensure a clean site and absolute safety during construction.
The Ministry of Transport also stated that in 2014, it will strive to complete the construction of 83 bridges for which economic and technical reports have been approved. The remaining bridges out of a total of 186 will be completed in stages during the first quarter and early second quarter of 2015.

Previously, the project to build 186 suspension bridges for local communities to ensure traffic safety in 28 mountainous provinces in the North, Central, and Central Highlands regions was approved in principle by the Prime Minister and endorsed by the Ministry of Transport. The project is expected to complete the construction of 186 suspension bridges within 9 months from the date the project implementation procedures are finalized.
It is known that in July 2014, the Ministry of Transport held a meeting with the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Finance, and reported to the Prime Minister to request permission to advance funds in 2015 to implement the construction of pedestrian suspension bridges in 2014.
On the other hand, due to the urgency of the project, the Ministry of Transport has selected capable and experienced units to implement the project, specifically: the Transport Engineering Design Consulting Corporation (TEDI) as the survey and design unit; and the Institute of Transport Science and Technology as the design review and construction supervision unit.
The Ministry of Transport has also selected mechanical engineering companies with strong financial and construction capabilities, such as Quang Trung Mechanical Engineering Enterprise, 30/4 Mechanical Engineering Joint Stock Company, Hong Nam Construction Joint Stock Company, and 465 Construction Joint Stock Company, to carry out the construction and ensure it is completed on schedule.
