A two-day state funeral will be held for former General Secretary Do Muoi.
This Saturday and Sunday (October 6 and 7), flags will be flown at half-mast in offices and public places and entertainment activities will be suspended.
The Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front issued a special communique on the evening of October 3 on the passing of former General Secretary Do Muoi.

After a period of serious illness, former General Secretary Do Muoi passed away at 11:12 p.m. on October 1 (August 22, Mau Tuat year), at the 108 Central Military Hospital, Hanoi.
"During more than 80 years of revolutionary activities, he made many great contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation; he was awarded the Gold Star Order, the 80-year Party membership badge and many other noble orders and medals by the Party and State. His passing is a great loss to our Party, State and people," the statement said.
The funeral of former General Secretary Do Muoi was held according to State funeral protocol; the coffin lay at the National Funeral Home No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi.
The visitation begins at 7:00 a.m. on October 6 and ends at 7:30 a.m. on October 7; the memorial service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on October 7; and the burial will begin at 1:00 p.m. the same day at his hometown, Ma Vang area, village 1, Dong My commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi city.
At the same time, at the Reunification Hall in Ho Chi Minh City, a memorial service was also held for former General Secretary Do Muoi.

Former General Secretary Do Muoi was born on February 2, 1917, joined revolutionary activities in 1936, and joined the Communist Party of Vietnam in June 1939.
He was an alternate member of the Central Committee of the 2nd tenure; a member of the Central Committee of the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th tenures; an alternate member of the Politburo of the 4th tenure; a member of the Politburo of the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th tenures; a permanent member of the Secretariat of the 6th tenure; Chairman of the Council of Ministers (now Prime Minister) from June 1988 to June 1991; General Secretary from June 1991 to December 1997; an advisor to the Central Executive Committee from 1997 to 2000; a National Assembly delegate of the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th tenures./.
