Sharapova wins in comeback match after ban
Former world number one beat Roberta Vinci 7-5, 6-3 in the first round of the Stuttgart Open.
This is Maria Sharapova's first match after completing a 15-month ban for testing positive for doping in January 2016. Sharapova is not ranked on the WTA rankings but has been granted a wildcard entry to the Stuttgart Open without having to play qualifying.

The "Russian Doll" received a warm welcome from the crowd after her return. In the stands, a fan carried a Russian flag with the words: "Welcome back, Maria".
Sharapova made several unforced errors, which is common for players after a long layoff. She lost the first game on serve but responded with two break points to win the first set narrowly.
Sharapova had 11 aces and 39 winners in the match. She scored two more breaks to easily win the second set, ending the match after an hour and 45 minutes. In the second round, Sharapova will face compatriot Ekaterina Makarova.
"I've been waiting for this for a long time. The first seconds when you step on the court are the best feeling in the world. It's a special feeling knowing you're stepping back out," said Sharapova.
Sharapova's victory came amid protests from many, including Vinci, about her wildcard entry into tournaments. After the match, the Italian world number 34 said: "I lost. She got a wildcard. She won. She's happy. I'm sad but that's how it is."
Sharapova's suspension ends on April 26, and she has chosen to return immediately. After the Stuttgart Open, the five-time Grand Slam champion has also been invited to play at the Madrid Open and the Rome Masters, both WTA Premier Mandatory events. Sharapova will have to wait until May 16 to find out whether she will receive a wild card to Roland Garros.
