'Ship' drugs for friend, young father 'gets 20 years in prison'

On December 13, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Luong Van Dat (born 1993), residing in Tam Hop commune, Tuong Duong district, for the crime of "Illegal transportation of narcotics".drug".
According to the case file, on the afternoon of May 6, 2022, Dat went to his wife's house to play when his friend Kha Ngoc Quy came to ask for help to enter Dua village, Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district to get drugs.
Dat agreed so he followed Quy home. At 8:00 p.m. that same day, Quy told Dat, "Take 5 million here and deliver the goods to me. When you're done, they'll give you another 5 million." Dat understood that Quy wanted him to deliver the drugs and receive 10 million VND as payment, so he agreed.

In the dark, the two went to the area near Tuong Duong District Hospital and Quy gave drugs to Dat. Luong Van Dat hid the package of drugs in his stomach and walked to the waiting customer but was arrested by the police with more than 535 grams of evidence. Taking advantage of the loophole, the drug buyer escaped.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime. The defendant said that because he knew Quy before, he agreed to transport drugs for his friend. Dat presented the circumstances of his young wife and children to ask the court to consider reducing his sentence.
After considering the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the panel sentenced defendant Luong Van Dat to 20 years in prison. As for Quy, because this subject has left the locality, the investigation agency will investigate and clarify later.
