12th grade students are confused when registering their wishes to choose a major and school.
One day after the graduation exam results, candidates began their journey to register their wishes to enter universities. Although the Ministry of Education and Training has created all conditions for candidates, choosing a suitable school is still a difficult task.
The more the harder to choose
With 52.77 points, Binh Nguyen, a female student from a specialized school in Vinh city, was satisfied with her high school graduation exam results. The surprising thing for her in this exam was that although block C is only a graduation exam, she achieved a fairly high score of 27.25 points. Meanwhile, block D, which is for university admission, only achieved 26.50 points.
Previously, this female student was admitted directly to the University of Commerce, but because her goal is the National Economics University, she is still hesitant when considering admission: With her current score, she thinks that if she applies for admission based on block C, she has a good chance of being admitted. However, there is no major that she loves. On the contrary, if she applies for block D to the National Economics University, her chance of being admitted is not high because last year the school only had a few majors with a standard score below 27 points. She is considering the Academy of Finance, Hanoi National University and Banking Academy.

Similarly, Binh Minh, who lives in Hung Phuc ward, Vinh city, has received admission notices from 7 universities but has not yet decided which school to choose.
Talking about his reasons, this candidate said: I mainly register for majors such as Journalism, Multimedia Communications and Public Relations. Therefore, I do not have difficulty in choosing a major. But I am considering the tuition fees of the schools. If I study in Ho Chi Minh City, I will have a good learning environment and experience conditions, although the cost will be high. On the contrary, if I study in Hue or Da Nang, the tuition fees are low, the cost is saved quite a lot but the learning environment will not be as good. I am going to the forums for reference before making the final decision.
In the past, university admission was only conducted after candidates had their graduation exam results, but now, with more than 20 different admission methods, many candidates have received their university admission results early. This clearly creates convenience for candidates in the process of choosing majors and careers, and they have many opportunities to choose their favorite majors and careers.

But besides that, it is inevitable to have confusion and concerns, especially when nowadays many candidates, even though they have finished grade 12, still cannot visualize their abilities and have not determined their future career or profession.
Ms. Le Thi Lan - Hung Loc commune, Vinh city shared: For nearly a week now, my son and I have been stressed because he wants to study at the Banking Academy. Meanwhile, I want him to study Logistics at the Finance Academy. When parents choose a career for their children, they usually consider the output. Meanwhile, children often choose based on their feelings, friends or interests, so conflicts often arise.
Teachers are "consultants"
Choosing a major or career is a question that many 12th grade students asked at the Admissions and Career Counseling Conference for 12th grade students organized by the Ministry of Education and Training in Vinh city in early 2024.
Explaining this, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Thi Hien - Head of Training Management Department - Foreign Trade University was very concerned when saying that it is understandable that students are confused when choosing a major and career. In high school, students should have the opportunity to experience many careers to explore their interests and passions, and then they will choose a career that suits their abilities and meets the human resource needs of the market when they graduate. The current difficulty is that not many high schools do career orientation work.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao - Director of the Testing Center - Hanoi National University, said that "the situation of students graduating and working in a different field is because many candidates made the wrong choice from the beginning, they did not receive early career guidance, or did not have complete information when choosing, or were affected by other objective factors leading to wrong choices".
Regarding career and school counseling for students, teacher Le Thi Vinh - head teacher of class 12C2 - Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities No. 2 said: Due to the nature of our class, students do not have the conditions to take the foreign language certificate exam, so there are almost no students who are admitted early. Students are currently using their graduation exam results to apply for university admission. In recent days, many students have asked her for support in choosing a major. The difficulty for us is that the C block does not have many schools, mainly majors such as Pedagogy, Court, Procuracy, Law, Journalism, etc. Therefore, before advising students, I have to review the benchmark scores of schools from previous years, ask carefully about their interests, abilities and the circumstances of each family. If we do not consider the output, many students will have difficulties when graduating and I do not want to repeat the situation of some students from previous courses. Many students finish university and work in a different field, or even work for hire.
Teacher Le Thi Vinh also added: Career guidance for students is carried out by the school throughout the 12th grade. However, because of their limited age and limited knowledge, students are still confused when choosing a career.

I teach both regular and selective classes at the school. Students in selective classes who are admitted early often have already decided on their career. The rest are wondering whether to go to university, study abroad or learn a trade.
For many students entering university, they often choose a “hot” major. Therefore, when advising them, I often advise them to choose the right career that they love, and the job opportunities after graduation. There are careers that may be “hot” at the moment, but in a few years they will no longer be popular and they will have difficulties.

Unlike previous years, candidates have 2 weeks to register their wishes, this year they only have 1 week to "weigh, measure, and count". According to regulations, candidates are not limited in their wishes but can only be considered for admission to a single wish. According to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, all candidates must register for admission on the system, including candidates who have been considered or admitted early at training institutions.
Specifically:
-From July 18 to 5:00 p.m. on July 30, candidates can register, adjust, and add admission wishes an unlimited number of times.
- From July 22 to 5:00 p.m. on July 31, candidates for direct admission must confirm their admission on the system (if any).
- From July 31 to 5:00 p.m. on August 6, candidates pay admission fees according to the number of admission wishes online, according to the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training.
- Before 5:00 p.m. on August 19, training institutions will notify candidates who passed the first round of admission.
- Before 5:00 p.m. on August 27, candidates confirm online admission for the first round on the system.
