Student from Nghe An province who cycled 300km to take the exam was granted special admission to university.

Minister of National Defence, General Phung Quang Thanh, has just signed a decision regarding the supplementary recruitment of candidate Ngo Van Thuan for university-level training at the Armored and Tank Officer School.

With the decision signed by the Minister of National Defense on August 29th, Ngo Van Thuan has officially become a student at the Armored and Tank Officer School. Accordingly, the Principal of the Armored and Tank Officer School will send Thuan an admission notice for the platoon-level university program as per regulations.

Born into a poor farming family in Xuan Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, Nghe An province, Ngo Van Thuan, being the eldest son, had a spirit of independence from a young age. Thuan's family has three siblings; his second sister passed away due to a serious illness.

When filling out her university application, Thuan made the decision alone and kept it a secret from her family because, according to her, if her parents knew, they wouldn't let her take the exam by herself.
At noon on June 29, 2012, Thuan borrowed a bicycle from a friend and set off from Yen Thanh district to fulfill his dream.

When she left, Thuan only had 30,000 dong in her pocket. By the time she arrived in Hanoi, she still had 10,000 dong left. Throughout the 300 km journey, she only ate plain bread and drank water she brought from home. When she was tired, Thuan only dared to sit down and rest for about 15 minutes before continuing because she was afraid that if she lay down to sleep, a thief might steal her bicycle.

Fortunately for Thuan, upon arriving in Thach That district (Hanoi), he met Captain Nguyen Quoc Khanh of the Thach That District Police. Knowing about a candidate from Nghe An who had cycled 300 km on foot, drinking only water and having nothing to eat, Captain Khanh checked Thuan's identification and helped him find a family who could provide him with food, accommodation, and transportation to the exam.

However, the exam results were not as expected; Thuan only scored 14 points, while the cutoff score for admission to the Army Officer School 1 was 14.5 points.
Despite his sadness, Thuan didn't give up. He worked various jobs, earning small amounts of money to save up for his future plans.
Being granted special admission to the Armored and Tank Officer School brought great joy to this determined student. His teachers, friends, family, relatives, and neighbors were all happy for Thuan.
