In his recent National Day message, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong affirmed that the Lion City is undergoing a period of rapid change.

He noted that artificial intelligence will replace skilled professions. An example supporting this claim is the robot named "Huggler," which is being researched and developed by Singaporean scientists for use in medicine.

According to researchers, the Huggler robot, which resembles a monkey, will be used to help reduce the risk of depression in the elderly and may be able to diagnose some mental health symptoms in older adults, such as dementia.

The research team asserts that Huggler could help alleviate the heavy workload currently faced by doctors, nurses, and home caregivers. Dr. Tan Yeow Kee of the Infocomm Research Institute stated, "By having the Huggler robot with the elderly, nurses and caregivers can focus on other important tasks, or even rest."

The Huggler is made up of many parts, with a microphone system installed in the head and on the body, as well as an internal speaker system and smartphone.

According to Singaporean scientists, industrial robots like Huggler could soon perform highly skilled tasks previously performed by technicians, computer programmers, and engineers. This could save companies money while increasing efficiency by up to 40%.

However, researchers also argue that robots will never be able to replace humans, but will only help with difficult and dangerous tasks.

Therefore, as robots become increasingly common, humans will only have to perform more demanding tasks, such as monitoring or decision-making.
