Phan Van Thang (red shirt) is from Nghi My commune (Nghi Loc), currently a third-year student of the Automotive Technology department at a university in Vinh city. Last summer, Thang was invited by a friend in the same boarding house to unload goods at Vinh market. Realizing that this job is a bit hard and requires physical strength, but does not take too much time and is paid immediately, Thang continued to do it in his spare time and has been doing it until now. In the Vinh market area, there are about 10 porter groups operating, but only about 5 groups operate "organized", meaning there is a group leader (also known as foreman) who takes on the work and assigns people, the remaining groups are spontaneous groups, forming and disbanding erratically. Mr. Nguyen Binh Ngan, leader of Thang's group, said that this group has about 20 students working, but because there is no bond between them, and because they have to be hard-working and patient to stick with this job, the workforce changes frequently. Photo: Thanh Cuong

With a truck carrying more than 30 tons of sugar, for each ton the owner pays 25,000 VND, on average in 1.5 hours each person in Thang's group loads 4 tons of goods and earns about 100,000 VND.
