(Baonghean) - Nghe An currently has over 80,000 students studying at universities and colleges. Student activities in the province are developing increasingly strongly, both upholding the fine traditions of previous generations of students and creatively and proactively embracing the positive aspects of modern students in the era of integration.

"Igniting" the movement

Student volunteer programs are a prominent activity in the student movement of universities and colleges, attracting a large number of students and becoming an indispensable need for students over the years. 100% of universities and colleges throughout the province have established student volunteer teams. With a pioneering spirit, this core force is always ready to go anywhere and do anything, creating a vibrant atmosphere of competition.

The "Green Summer" movement, "Supporting Students During Exams," and "Humanitarian Blood Donation" are meaningful and wholesome activities that not only attract an increasing number of students and offer increasingly diverse forms of participation, but also leave a lasting impression with projects associated with volunteer movements. In the "Supporting Students During Exams 2016" program, students from Vinh University of Technology Education mobilized to promote traffic safety and security at exam sites, advised over 2,500 candidates on exam locations and nearly 800 safe accommodations, and provided 500 free motorbike rides.

In addition, the "Green Summer" volunteer movement is organized on a large scale by the school, with volunteer teams concentrated in the difficult mountainous districts of Tuong Duong, Ky Son, and Quy Chau. Mr. Dang Minh Viet, Secretary of the Youth Union of Vinh University of Technology and Education, said: "Leveraging the strengths of engineering students, the school's volunteer activities are always linked to the fields they study and research, such as installing and repairing electrical systems and agricultural machinery, disseminating basic computer skills, and helping people in remote areas access information technology."

Youth volunteer activities and participation in building new rural areas are spreading strongly.

The Blood Donation Club of Vinh Medical University is a prime example of the student voluntary blood donation movement. With the motto: "One for all, all for one" and the slogan "Donate blood to save lives - a happy smile," after 11 years of establishment, the club has organized more than 90 blood donation programs. Annually, the club organizes 5-6 blood donation drives, collecting nearly 2,000 units of blood, contributing to the reserve of the Nghe An Provincial Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center. The 2016 National Volunteer Award for the Blood Donation Club is a well-deserved reward for this group of young people who consistently benefit the community and build noble humanitarian values in society.

Mr. Le Dong Hieu, Secretary of the Youth Union of Vinh Medical University, affirmed: "Volunteer activities are a concrete way to implement the Party's guidelines and the State's policies, aiming to guide awareness and educate students on ethics and ideology, especially in the context of the country's ongoing reform and development." It can be said that through volunteer activities, students have showcased their talents and creativity, affirmed their role in contributing to society, and had the opportunity to train and mature through practical experience.

Strive, train, and innovate.

Beyond leaving their mark in volunteer activities, the student movement is also a platform for students to showcase their talents and intellect in academics, research, and creativity, enriching their knowledge. Many movements and campaigns are actively participated in by students, contributing to the development of character and skills, such as: "Nghe An Youth Learning and Following Uncle Ho's Teachings," "Five Good Students," and "Students Building a Friendly and Healthy Educational Environment"... The title "Five Good Students," with its five criteria of "Good Academics – Good Morality – Good Physical Fitness – Good Volunteering – Good Integration," has become a goal and motivation for students at universities and colleges.

As of 2015, Nghe An province had 6 students who were honored with the "Excellent Student" title at the central level; 120 "Excellent Students" at the provincial level; and nearly 1,000 students who achieved the "Excellent Student" title at the school level. This demonstrates the comprehensive efforts and achievements of the province's students.

Phan Thi Quynh Trang, a third-year student in the Literature Department at Vinh University, who received the "Excellent Student" award at the university level in 2015, shared: "Receiving the 'Excellent Student' award is an honor and a milestone for me. It also serves as a stepping stone for me to continue striving to improve myself and become a useful member of society in the future." Undeniably, student movements in Nghe An are becoming increasingly effective and substantial, and are facing many new opportunities for development in various aspects of social life.

However, how can we keep the flame alive, inspire, and ignite noble aspirations and actions in students, leading to increasingly positive contributions to society? This is the question that motivates student organizations at all levels in organizing movements. Mr. Dang Minh Viet, Secretary of the Youth Union of Vinh Medical University, believes that: “Nothing attracts and inspires students more than the fields they are trained in. Therefore, it is necessary to create movement activities whose content is integrated with professional training.”

Comrade Nguyen Thi Thom - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, President of the Nghe An Student Association, stated: “The Student Association will focus on improving moral education, lifestyle, guiding entrepreneurship, supporting employment, and developing practical social skills for students. Simultaneously, the Association will concentrate on implementing and applying students' initiatives, ideas, projects, and research topics into practical production and life. This is an important task, aimed at helping and supporting students prepare for self-development and career building in the era of integration; and at the same time, further fostering the dynamism, creativity, self-reliance, and self-improvement of students.”
