Nghe An students collect scrap metal for charity
(Baonghean.vn) - During the busy final exam days, Nghe An students at the Vietnam Agricultural Academy still took the time to collect scrap metal for charity.
The plan to collect scrap metal to fund charity activities during the summer in Tri Le (Que Phong) has been implemented by Nghe An students at the Vietnam Agricultural Academy for over a month now.
Waste collection is carried out by students on weekend afternoons and holidays in residential groups around the Academy area with student dormitories such as Dao Nguyen, An Dao, Cuu Viet, etc. in Trau Quy town, Gia Lam district (Hanoi).

According to Ngo Tri Linh, a first-year student from Quynh Luu district, a Veterinary Medicine faculty member, each time they go to collect, there are 15 to 20 students participating, wearing green volunteer uniforms with the words "Nghe An Volunteer Student Team - Vietnam Agricultural Academy" clearly printed on them. Those who cannot participate directly collect at their dormitory, then notify the team to come and pick it up. Usually, they divide into small groups, go to residential groups, ask for scrap (mainly bottles, waste paper), then gather them in one place and transfer them to the collection points.
During the waste collection process, the students also had the initiative to ask permission from the landlords of the boarding houses with many students to place donation bins on the spot. When students in the boarding houses throw away their trash, they sort their trash, pick up bottles, etc. and put them in these donation bins. On the day, the volunteer student team just has to go there to collect it. This method is supported by many students.

Linh added: “The scrap collection activity takes place at the end of the school year, especially when students are taking semester exams, but because it is held on the afternoon of holidays, it does not affect everyone's studies. After a stressful week of studying, participating in scrap collection with my friends makes me feel happy, comfortable and very meaningful.”
Because at the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, there are many student associations and groups from different provinces, all of whom simultaneously collect scrap metal, overlapping activities in the same area, the activities of the Nghe An volunteer student team also encountered many difficulties such as the landlord not creating conditions for the volunteer student team to place donation boxes, or placing boxes was not very effective...
Although the amount of scrap and the amount of money earned each time is erratic, ranging from 250,000 to 700,000 VND, thanks to the enthusiasm, determination and solidarity of fellow countrymen, the scrap collection activities of the Nghe An student team still take place regularly. The money earned from this activity is put into the fund by the Association of Fellow Countrymen to help ethnic minorities in Tri Le (Que Phong).

In addition, the Association also has activities to help local people with long-term significance such as sharing knowledge about organic agriculture, promoting appropriate livestock production models, etc.
Tran Thi Kim Oanh from Xuan Lam commune (Nam Dan), a second-year student at the Faculty of Biotechnology and a member of the Nghe An Student Liaison Committee at the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, shared: “This is the second year that Agricultural students from the Nghe An Student Association have carried out the scrap collection activity. This activity not only helps the community reduce waste, clean up the environment, but also raises funds for the association to help the poor in their hometown.”
