Student volunteers provide support to exam candidates.
Beware of fake volunteers.
(Baonghean.vn) -This year, during the university and college entrance exams, more than 2,000 young volunteers from Nghe An province are present at 95 exam locations in Vinh City, Hung Nguyen district, Nghi Xuan district (Ha Tinh province), and Cua Lo town to support the candidates. However, there have also been instances of fake volunteers luring candidates to their families' rented accommodations…
At dawn on July 2nd, Vinh bus station was bustling with people coming and going. As soon as they saw the Que Phong - Vinh bus arrive at the station, a group of volunteer youth from Vinh University immediately approached the bus door, asking parents bringing their children to the university entrance exam if they needed any assistance.

Young volunteers carry luggage for family members and exam candidates at Vinh Bus Station.
Upon seeing a mother and daughter from an ethnic minority group speaking broken Vietnamese and asking for directions to the Vinh City Continuing Education Center, the two volunteer students quickly ran to get a map and meticulously showed them the way. They then led the mother and daughter to the Vinh City Youth Union's motorbike taxi team outside the bus station gate, amidst the grumbling of the motorbike taxi drivers inside the station.
Wiping away sweat after helping a student carry luggage from the bus station to the bus stop, a female student volunteer said that as soon as family members of candidates got off the bus, motorbike taxi drivers operating in the station would rush to offer their services, but most candidates and their families trusted and followed the instructions of the student volunteers. If the distance from Vinh bus station to the exam location was less than 1km, family members would be given a free ride; if it was longer, they could choose the "Friendly Motorbike Taxi" volunteer team outside the station at a price of 7,000 VND/km. If candidates wanted to use a motorbike taxi outside for convenience, the young volunteers were also ready to advise on a suitable price, avoiding being overcharged.
A new feature in this year's volunteer activities is the friendly volunteer motorbike taxi team organized by the Vinh City Youth Union. Phan Xuan Hong, a motorbike taxi driver, said that the purpose of this volunteer campaign is to both help students coming to Vinh City to take the exams and to help some young people and students earn a legitimate income during the summer break.
The friendly motorbike taxi team equipped with fare meters, organized by the Vinh City Youth Union, is a new feature in this year's exam support program.
All the motorbikes in the volunteer team are fitted with large license plates, including phone numbers and, notably, meters like taxis. With prices of 7,000 VND for the first 6 km, 5,000 VND for the 7th to 12th km, and 4,000 VND for the 13th km onwards, plus discounts for round trips, the motorbike taxi service offered by the volunteer youth team is very popular. “I’ve taken my child to the city for the exam twice before, and each time I took a motorbike taxi or regular taxi at a high price without realizing it. This year, with the help of the volunteer motorbike taxi team, my child and I only spent 20,000 VND to get to the exam site. It’s convenient, cheap, and I feel very happy and confident because of the selfless and friendly spirit of the young volunteers,” said Mr. Lo Van Minh from Tuong Duong district after his trip from Vinh Bus Station to the Phan Boi Chau High School exam site.
Not only at Vinh Bus Station, but at all intersections and crossroads in Vinh City, there are volunteer youth groups supporting the exam season. Here, young people in blue uniforms are ready to assist students and their families with any related issues. On July 2nd, at the entrance to Vinh University, hundreds of young volunteers lined both sides of the road, meticulously guiding students to the main lecture halls, the university library, and the exam venues, while also introducing 6,000 free accommodations for students and their families. Free luggage storage points and signs offering free meals for students were also prominently displayed. This is where 5,000 free meals and drinks or milk will be provided to both students and their relatives during the two exam days, July 4th and 5th.
Student volunteers are providing free accommodation advice to exam candidates at the gate of Vinh University.
At the bus stop near the gate of Vinh University, young volunteers enthusiastically advised and guided many candidates from Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, and Quang Tri provinces about bus routes to the exam locations, about the free motorbike taxi service, etc.
The Nghe An Provincial Youth Union announced that the "Supporting Students During Exams" program will run from July 3rd to July 10th at 52 exam locations in the Vinh exam cluster. The program's steering committee has established 130 support teams, including 18 teams providing free baggage storage, 15 teams offering free motorbike rides, 12 teams participating in maintaining traffic safety and order, and 85 teams providing guidance, advice, and support at exam locations and traffic intersections. The program will introduce nearly 17,000 affordable accommodations, over 6,000 free accommodations; nearly 600 affordable and hygienic eateries; provide free drinking water at many locations; and coordinate the provision of 5,000 free meals for candidates and their families…
Beware of fake volunteers. While young volunteers were sweating profusely, rushing back and forth to guide candidates to the exam sites as quickly as possible to settle into their accommodations and wait for the official exam day, around Vinh University, several women wearing blue shirts and masks, posing as volunteers, appeared to lure candidates to their family's rented rooms. The room rates they offered ranged from 50,000 to 70,000 VND per person per night, not including the 20,000 VND per set of bedding. |
