Sir Alex was saddened to lose Wayne Rooney a month later.
Witnessing his favorite pupil Wayne Rooney suffer an injury in the match against Fulham, manager Alex Ferguson felt great regret and sorrow.
In last night's match, Sir Alex surprisingly left Rooney on the bench and gave Robin van Persie a starting spot. Living up to expectations, the Dutch striker had a sensational game and scored a goal, contributing significantly to Manchester United's thrilling 3-2 victory over Fulham.

While van Persie shone, Rooney wasn't brought on until the 67th minute. However, before he could make any impact, the English striker suffered an injury.
During a challenge for the ball with Rodallega of Fulham, the opponent scraped the sole of his boot into Rooney's thigh. The collision caused a long gash in Rooney's thigh, exposing the flesh. Manchester United's medical staff immediately provided first aid and took Rooney to the hospital for treatment.
In a post-match interview, the Scottish manager said: "This is extremely bad news. Rooney has been taken to hospital and he could be out for four weeks. Injuries like this need to be monitored very closely because they are very prone to infection."

This is really bad news for MU, especially as they prepare to embark on their Champions League campaign early next month.
Despite his sadness at losing Rooney, Sir Alex still praised the performance of his players, especially Robin van Persie: "After conceding an early goal due to defensive errors, we played better. Van Persie's goal was fantastic. It's strong proof for anyone who still doubts his form."
