Speaking in the town of Cholpon-Ata (Kyrgyzstan), where the second phase of the anti-terrorism exercise called Issyk-Kul 2018 is taking place, Mr. Novikov stated: "One of the problems in Central Asia is the plot of the international terrorist group IS to establish a new stronghold called the 'Islamic State', forming and activating the underground jihadist organization Jamaat".
Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan's Deputy Prime Minister Zhenish Razakov pointed out the long-term nature of the terrorist threat in the Central Asian region. "Unfortunately, it must be admitted that the terrorist threat to our country, emanating from Afghanistan, is increasing," Razakov said.
According to intelligence agencies, members of international terrorist organizations are infiltrating the Central Asian countries. All this creates a terrorist threat in the region as well as for the CIS countries in the long term."
Afghanistan has long been in turmoil, with the government still fighting against IS and the Taliban Islamist movement. The instability in Afghanistan is posing a security threat to neighboring countries in Central Asia./.
