The number of Covid-19 infections in one day in Cambodia nearly doubled the total number of cases in 2020
Cambodia recorded 576 new Covid-19 cases, the highest daily increase since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in the country. This figure is nearly double the total number of Covid-19 cases in 2020.
According to the report of the Ministry of HealthCambodiaOn the afternoon of April 9, the country detected 576 more Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases nationwide to 3,604, including 24 deaths. This is the highest number of new infections in a single day since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in Cambodia. This record number was recorded after a series of new outbreaks were discovered in the capital Phnom Penh. This raised concerns about the ability of Cambodia's health system to cope with the epidemic.
The capital Phnom Penh is currently the locality with the highest number of Covid-19 cases with 2,216 cases, equivalent to two-thirds of the total number of Covid-19 cases nationwide. Followed by Preah Sihanouk, Kandal and Svay Rieng provinces.
Faced with the increasingly complicated Covid-19 epidemic situation, the Government and localities are actively applying all measures to prevent the epidemic such as: banning travel between provinces, banning large gatherings, closing entertainment centers, tourist areas, etc.
