(Baonghean.vn) - Planting more trees not only creates a beautiful environment but also helps drivers determine their route, creating a sense of security and safety while driving; at the same time, it contributes to reducing damage from erosion and road closures during floods, improving road safety.

On the morning of February 1st, at National Highway 7C (Km17+00 - Km18+00) in Nghi Dong commune, Nghi Loc district, Nghe An province, the Department of Transport organized the launching ceremony of the "Tree Planting Festival to forever remember President Ho Chi Minh and improve road safety in 2020".

On November 28, 1959, President Ho Chi Minh launched the Tree Planting Festival. Since then, the Tree Planting Festival has become a widespread mass movement and a beautiful tradition of our nation. Responding to Uncle Ho's call, every Lunar New Year, the Nghe An Department of Transport organizes the Tree Planting Festival on various roads throughout the province.

Immediately after the launching ceremony, all leaders and staff of the Department of Transport and the contractors and maintenance management units planted over 200 black star trees with a diameter of 5cm and a height of 2m - 2.5m along National Highway 7C (Km17+00 - Km18+00) in Nghi Dong commune, Nghi Loc district.

This is a vital transportation route that plays a crucial role in the economic, social, and national defense development of the province.

According to Phan Thi Thu Hien, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Road Administration: Through research and analysis of several traffic accidents where vehicles crashed through guardrails and into embankments.

Therefore, if there are rows of trees with appropriate diameters and heights, they can form a natural guardrail system, helping to minimize damage to people and vehicles.

The Department of Transport requested that contractors responsible for the regular maintenance of national highways actively participate in the movement, linking it with road shoulders, grass cutting along both sides of the route, and tree protection and care, so that the "Tree Planting Festival in accordance with Uncle Ho's teachings, improving road safety" movement will become a typical activity of the Nghe An transport sector. This is an action in accordance with President Ho Chi Minh's teaching, "Spring is the time for planting trees, making the country ever more vibrant," and is aimed at commemorating the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2020) by the Nghe An Department of Transport.
