The death toll from the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria has surpassed 46,000, according to the latest figures. The death toll is expected to rise as many people remain missing.

Rescuers continue to search for signs of life under the rubble, although there is little hope. In Türkiye, a total of 264,000 apartments have been destroyed. Yunus Sezer, head of the country's Disaster and Emergency Management Agency, said that search and rescue efforts would largely end by the evening of February 19.

The death toll from the earthquake in Türkiye is now more than 40,640. Meanwhile, in neighboring Syria, more than 5,800 people have died - figures that have not changed much in recent days. However, concerns are growing for the victims of the earthquake tragedy in Syria, as relief operations are being hampered in the northwest of the country. The World Food Programme (WFP) last week called for the opening of more border crossings from Türkiye to Syria./.
