Death toll rises to more than 28,000 due to earthquakes in Türkiye, Syria

The World Health Organization estimates that a total of nearly 26 million people were affected by the February 6 earthquake.

According to updated figures from both Türkiye and Syria, the death toll from the devastating earthquake on February 6 in the two countries has now surpassed 28,000 people, including more than 3,500 people in Syria.

The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and Vice President Fuat Oktay have just announced that the death toll in the earthquake in this country is now 24,614 people. The earthquake has affected 13 million people in 10 provinces of Türkiye.

More than 166,000 rescue workers are currently at the scene. 92,700 people have been evacuated by Türkiye from the earthquake-ravaged areas.

According to the United Nations, at least 870,000 people in Türkiye and Syria are in need of food aid. 5.3 million Syrians could become homeless.
