The number of Vietnamese people using social networks ranks 7th in the world.
Social network users in Vietnam rank among the highest in the world; while hundreds of "made in Vietnam" social networks are licensed to operate but are not as popular as foreign social networks.
According to the April 2018 report of Weare Social, the number of social network users in Vietnam is very high, ranking 7th in the world with 58 million people, an increase of 16% compared to the same period last year. Ho Chi Minh City also ranked 6th among the cities with the most Facebook users with 14 million members.
The time Vietnamese people spend on the Internet and social networks per day is 7 hours and 2.5 hours respectively, quite high compared to the region and the world. Facebook and YouTube are the most used sites with rates of 61% and 59%.

According to the Ministry of Information and Communications, Vietnam currently has more than 360 social networks of domestic organizations and businesses that are licensed and operating. However, the platforms with the largest number of users belong to foreign services such as Facebook, YouTube, Google+...
However, most Vietnamese social network providers are operating in the form of forums, while foreign platforms are clearly superior thanks to their rich social network structure, attractive interface, high interaction and community connectivity.
Some Internet experts also commented that although there are many Vietnamese social networks, they lack identity and creativity. Many services are built from imitating the interface and features of Facebook.
In addition, similar to Yahoo 360 before, changing the usage habits of Internet users is very difficult. They are used to establishing relationships, updating and sharing information, shopping on Facebook, watching videos on YouTube, posting photos on Instagram... so attracting them to a domestic platform is not easy...
