Syrian opposition will not agree to any role for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the transitional government at the upcoming round of talks in Geneva, Syrian High Negotiations Committee spokesman Salim al-Muslat said yesterday.
Speaking ahead of the talks scheduled for April 13, Salim al-Muslat stressed: “For us, it is very important to start negotiations on a transitional government, in which President Assad will not have any role in the future government. I think this round of negotiations should be the time to discuss the fate of Mr. Assad.”

Responding to President Assad's recent statement that he is ready to hold early presidential elections if necessary, Mr. An Mus-lat affirmed that these elections are not legitimate because 12 million Syrians have been evacuated and taken refuge abroad.
UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said he plans to visit Syria and Iran soon to discuss a political transition process ahead of the upcoming round of talks. According to Mr. Mistura, he wants to clarify the international and regional stance on the conflict as well as the transitional government in Syria. The UN representative for Syria also said that Russia has put forward some positive ideas. He will continue to consult with Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Lebanon before the next round of talks resume./.
