The Samsung Galaxy Fold7 launched with a slim and lightweight design, a larger screen, and a 200MP camera, but its price tag is making many people think twice.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold was once considered the iconic device that ushered in the era of foldable phones. The first generation created a global sensation, maintaining its leading position in the segment for a long time. However, competitors from China have increasingly made breakthroughs, forcing Samsung to make significant improvements to maintain its position.

Lightweight design and more user-friendly screen.

The first standout feature of the Samsung Galaxy Fold7 is its significantly thinner body. When folded, it measures 158.4×72.8×8.9 mm and weighs 215 grams, much lighter than the Fold6. This change allows it to easily rival flat-frame flagship models like the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

When unfolded, the Galaxy Fold7's main screen measures 8 inches with a resolution of 2184×1968, an increase from the 7.6-inch screen of its predecessor. The outer screen is also larger, from 6.3 inches to 6.5 inches, offering ample space and a size closer to traditional smartphones, allowing users to comfortably handle everyday tasks.

New improved details

Samsung has improved the Armor FlexHinge, but the crease in the middle of the screen hasn't completely disappeared. Another noteworthy feature is the in-display camera.

Samsung Galaxy Fold7

While the Samsung Galaxy Fold6 used to cover the sensor with a layer of pixels, the Galaxy Fold7 completely abandons this method, making the "black dot" more visible. However, the camera quality is upgraded to 10MP with a wide-angle lens, providing better support for online meetings.

However, the Galaxy Fold7 lacks the S Pen, a feature that was highly anticipated. This could be a trade-off for the thinner design, or because the actual demand isn't high enough. Nevertheless, for some Fold fans, this is definitely a drawback.

Materials, durability, and accessories

The Galaxy Fold7's body still combines glass and aluminum, but with a more robust aluminum and Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2. Samsung also changed the design of the back cover, only protecting the back, allowing users to apply a separate tempered glass screen protector to the front.

The upgraded rear camera system, with a 200MP main lens similar to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, delivers superior image quality. However, the camera protrudes significantly from the slim body, making the design look unbalanced when placed on a flat surface.

Performance and memory

The Samsung Galaxy Fold7 is equipped with a 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and Adreno 830 GPU. RAM can be upgraded to a maximum of 16GB and storage up to 1TB. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity are also included, taking the user experience to a new level.

However, the device lacks a heat dissipation chamber like the Galaxy S25, raising questions about its ability to maintain performance during prolonged use.

Batteries and charging: unchanged but not a breakthrough.

The battery capacity remains at 4,400 mAh, unchanged from the Galaxy Fold6. Charging technology also remains the same: 25W wired fast charging, 15W wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse charging.

Meanwhile, its competitor, the Honor Magic V5, boasts a battery capacity exceeding 5,800 mAh, making it difficult for the Galaxy Fold7 to differentiate itself in terms of battery life.

Initial pricing and reviews

The Samsung Galaxy Fold7 launched with Android 16 and OneUI 8, and comes with many new AI features, including a free 6-month trial of Gemini AI Pro.

Despite impressive upgrades, the high price tag makes the Samsung Galaxy Fold7 a luxury option. It's no longer just an oversized phone like before, but a flagship foldable phone with top-tier performance, a large screen, and a more user-friendly design.
