Evacuated more than 4,000 refugees from Libya since 2018

UNHCR said it had evacuated more than 4,000 refugees from Libya from 2018 to the end of January this year, and provided medical advice to 34,500 people.

On February 3, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said it had evacuated more than 4,000 refugees from Libya from 2018 to the end of January this year, while providing medical advice to 34,500 people. During the same period, more than 6,200 households received cash assistance and more than 1,300 tents were provided to displaced families.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) also confirmed that up to now, in Libya there are 56,643 refugees waiting to apply for refugee status.

Libya has become a departure point for illegal migrants hoping to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe due to the insecurity and chaos in the North African country. Tent camps in Libya are becoming overcrowded as they house thousands of illegal migrants rescued at sea or arrested by Libyan security forces.
