Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates, the two richest billionaires in the world, often wash the dishes after every family dinner.

According to CNBC, the founder of e-commerce empire Amazon.com and the founder of the world's largest software company Microsoft have both revealed that they are the ones who solve the problem of dishes after their families have dinner at home.

In a 2014 interview with Business Insider, Bezos said that washing dishes is part of his daily routine.

“I do this every night,” said the billionaire, who now has a net worth of about $95 billion.

“I believe this is the most glamorous thing I do,” Bezos said cheerfully.

Bill Gates, who was recently dethroned by Bezos as the richest man on the planet, not only washes the dishes every night but also enjoys doing it.

On Reddit in 2014, when asked: "What do you like to do that other people don't want you to do?", Gates - who currently owns more than 89 billion USD in net assets - replied: "I wash the dishes every night. Other people volunteer to do it, but I like to do it."

While both entrepreneurs have their own reasons for washing dishes, science has proven the benefits of doing the chores. Multiple independent studies have shown that washing dishes can help reduce stress and increase creativity.

For example, students who engage in mindful activities while washing dishes—such as focusing on their breathing and the sensations of touch, smell, and taste as they do the task—may experience reduced stress levels and increased motivation to learn and work. Focusing on the feeling of the warm water as you wash dishes, or the smell of dish soap, is thought to stimulate the brain.

Another study found that doing less mentally demanding tasks allows the brain to “wander” and become more creative in problem solving.

People who complete a "boring" task first, like copying numbers from a phone book, are more likely to think creatively afterward.

When do your best ideas come to you? Is it when you're sitting at your desk waiting for them to come? Or is it when you're in the shower and a brilliant idea pops into your head?

Time spent doing chores like washing dishes is one of the opportunities for ideas to emerge. So this may be the most important reason behind the two most billionaires on the planet washing dishes every night.
