(Baonghean.vn) - According to information from the Economic Security Department, Nghe An Provincial Police, from December 2016 to now, 53 "junk" SIM cards belonging to many different networks have been discovered and recovered.

This is the result of the first inspection in coordination between the Provincial Police and the Department of Information and Communications on the management of prepaid mobile subscribers of telecommunications service providers in the province.

According to the Ministry of Information and Communications, currently eachEvery day in Vietnam, millions of "spam" messages are sent. Spam messages mainly come from "spam" SIM cards - prepaid mobile subscribers that register incorrect subscriber information.

Many people easily buy "junk" SIM cards to send anonymous messages, scams, disrupt public order, directly affecting people's lives as well as information security and national security. "Spam" messages are even a tool for criminals and terrorists...

Implementing the direction of the Ministry of Information and Communications in Official Dispatch No. 3992/BTTTT-TTr dated November 11, 2016 on Inspection of illegal activation of promotional subscriptions, the inspection team conducted inspections of all network operators including branches, stores under branches, agents, SIM sales points, subscriber information registration points as well as related organizations and individuals when necessary.

The purpose of the inspection is to prevent the illegal purchase and circulation of mobile SIM cards; to discipline telecommunications service providers in registering and managing prepaid mobile subscriber information, and to stop providing services to subscribers who do not comply with legal regulations in registering information.
