On December 25, Dr. Duong Duc Hung - Head of the General Planning Department of Bach Mai Hospital said that on the same day, the hospital's Emergency Department received two patients transferred from Tri Duc General Hospital (headquartered on Le Duan Street, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi). One patient died, the other is being treated in critical condition.
"According to Tri Duc Hospital, these patients suffered from drug shock after anesthesia. Currently, Bach Mai Hospital is waiting for the results of the forensic examination to determine the cause of death of the patient born in 1976 and the remaining patient," said Mr. Hung.
According to Dr. Hung, when a patient goes into shock, the doctor will usually stop anesthetizing the remaining patients. The department head hypothesized whether there was a problem with the quality of the anesthetic used at Tri Duc Hospital.
That same afternoon, authorities were present at Tri Duc Hospital headquarters on Le Duan Street (Hai Ba Trung District) to verify and clarify the incident.
The latest information from the Hanoi Department of Health Inspectorate said that it had received information about the deaths of two patients at Tri Duc Hospital (Le Duan Street, Hai Ba Trung District). Initial information said the cause of death was suspected to be anaphylactic shock after anesthesia. Currently, the health sector is coordinating with the police to find the cause of death. In which, the forensic agency is organizing an autopsy to serve the investigation. Medical records and related evidence have been seized by the police. According to initial reports, these two patients were anesthetized for surgery on the morning of December 25. One of the patients, a female, had thyroid surgery and after being injected with anesthesia, showed signs of anaphylactic shock such as: difficulty breathing, low blood pressure, circulatory collapse, and lethargy. As soon as signs of anaphylactic shock appeared, the patients were given first aid on the spot and transferred to Bach Mai Hospital for emergency treatment. However, one patient died immediately after being taken to the emergency room, and another patient also died later. |
