Speaking at the opening of the program, Deputy Director of the Department of Climate Change, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Pham Van Tan emphasized:Climate change(Climate change) is seriously affecting the lives and sustainable development of the whole world. Many cultures and ecosystems are gradually being lost due to the impact of climate change. Climate change also strongly affects the relations between countries in terms of politics, diplomacy, trade and gives rise to many security issues, including non-traditional security.

For our country, climate change is no longer a risk, not just a single phenomenon but has become an existing reality, with comprehensive and widespread impacts in all regions.

The weather is getting more and more extreme, natural disasterIncreasing in both intensity and severity. Floods, high tides, droughts, saltwater intrusion, lack of domestic water, and landslides, partly caused by climate change, are also occurring continuously in regions across the country, each year more severe than the previous year.

Identifying the existing impacts of climate change, Vietnam has ratified and implemented the 1994 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the 2002 Kyoto Protocol, and the 2016 Paris Agreement; and has issued many important documents to respond to climate change.

Currently, the revised Law on Environmental Protection is being considered by the National Assembly and is expected to be passed in October 2020, including a chapter on climate change. Responding to climate change requires the cooperation not only of state agencies, but also mainly of organizations, individuals, businesses, communities, etc.

“Climate change has become a global game that no one can stay out of. To prepare for this new and big game, Vietnam has prepared carefully and is ready to participate equally with other countries, for the prosperous development of the country, businesses and Vietnamese citizens, and also for the protection of the earth system.”
