The rice fields of Yen Thanh district have never been so happy. From early morning, the roads leading to Phan Dang Luu High School were packed with people. When they heard that their hometown boy Nguyen Van Nam had made it to the final match, many people from Yen Thanh district and some communes of Dien Chau and Quynh Luu districts put aside their farming work to cheer for Nam. Many primary and secondary school students were also brought by their parents to Phan Dang Luu High School to cheer and encourage them to "follow Nam's example".
Outside the school, parking lots were operating at full capacity and prices were several times higher than usual. Refreshment stalls around the school were also proactive in setting up large TV screens to serve viewers. The town police and the Yen Thanh District Traffic Police had to increase their forces to maintain security and order for the final match at Phan Dang Luu High School.
In the school yard, parents and students were packed. Many unique banners and slogans were carefully prepared by the students to cheer for Nguyen Van Nam.
Between the competitions there was a special music program.
To meet the needs of watching and cheering for the competition, the school's Board of Directors installed many TV screens in different corners of the field. At these points, many parents and students were attentively following the developments of the final match. They cheered and burst into joy when Nguyen Van Nam answered the questions correctly and regretted the incorrect answers.
Entering the final round, all 4 contestants were well prepared and very confident in their knowledge. Therefore, the competition parts of the program such as Warm-up, Overcoming Obstacles, Acceleration and Finishing were very tense. The contestants chased each other for every score and every question.
Students and parents watched the competition on screens in corners of the schoolyard.
Despite his best efforts, under the pressure of the competition, Nguyen Van Nam did not have the highest confidence. After finishing 4 rounds, Nam achieved 75 points, winning the third prize of the competition.
Surpassing 3 other contestants in the acceleration section, Hoang The Anh, a student in grade 11 specializing in Mathematics at Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, was calm, confident and excellent on the way to the finish line, achieving 285 points to win the laurel wreath of the Road to Olympia competition in 2013.
Admitting that he was not an excellent student, but because of his special passion for the competition, Nguyen Van Nam went to the school board to ask for the opportunity to participate in this playground. Therefore, Nam's motivation to participate in this competition was only to fulfill his dream since he was a child. In the weekly, monthly, and quarterly competitions, Nam's "opponents" all came from famous specialized high schools. With a relaxed mentality and quite a wide knowledge of the fields, Nam won convincingly to earn a place in the yearly finals, and was the second person to bring live television to the land of Nghe An.
