In 2016, the crime and social evils situation in Nghe An continued to be complicated. In particular, drug crimes increased by 11.6% in number of cases and 7.7% in number of subjects compared to 2016; crimes related to positions and corruption increased by 25% in cases and 125% in number of subjects; environmental crimes increased by 40% and 35.3% in number of subjects; gambling increased in both number of cases and subjects; although the number of addicts decreased, the situation was still very complicated. With the smooth and synchronous coordination of functional agencies, especially the standing agency of the Provincial Police, the fight against crime has achieved some remarkable results. The rate of investigation and discovery of social order cases reached 82%; 100% of serious and complicated cases were investigated and clarified. Many major cases were established, fought, and destroyed, many dangerous criminal gangs were eliminated; organized gangs operating in the style of the mafia were not allowed to form; many drug trafficking, storage, transportation, and illegal trading lines in large quantities were dismantled.

Discussing the tasks of 2017, delegates focused on the current situation and solutions to combat and prevent various types of crimes, notably the crimes of manufacturing, transporting, trading, storing and using firecrackers. The number of more than 2,500 tons of firecrackers discovered and seized shows that this type of crime is currently operating actively with many forms and increasingly sophisticated methods. In his concluding remarks at the conference, comrade Le Xuan Dai requested that in 2017, the Steering Committee must resolutely carry out 7 key tasks, including: fully implementing the policies and directions of the Central and the province on crime prevention and control, social evils and building a movement for the entire people to protect national security; doing a good job of grasping the situation, proactively resolving emerging issues of security and order; continuing to promote propaganda on crime prevention and control, focusing more on the grassroots; proactively preventing and launching peak campaigns to attack, suppress and hunt down criminals; improving the quality and effectiveness of investigation, prosecution, trial of cases, investigation and handling of crimes to ensure compliance with legal regulations; innovating and improving the quality and effectiveness of rehabilitation, education and vocational training for prisoners; and reintegrating people who have completed their prison sentences into the community.
