Despite high expectations, Song Lam Nghe An could not score points against Hai Phong at Lach Tray Stadium, in round 3 of V.League 2025/26.

On the afternoon of August 27, Lach Tray Stadium was bustling when Hai Phong faced Song Lam Nghe An in round 3 of V.League 2025/26.

This is a match in which the home team is determined to break the 5-match winless streak against SLNA, while coach Phan Nhu Thuat and his team are also full of confidence after a shocking victory against defending champions Thep Xanh Nam Dinh.

Hai Phong started the season with a 0-2 defeat to Nam Dinh, but quickly regained their spirits with a 3-1 victory over rookie PVF-CAND in round 2. This victory helped coach Chu Dinh Nghiem and his team somewhat relieve pressure and create favorable psychological momentum before the confrontation with SLNA.

On the other side of the front line, SLNA is causing a big surprise. After losing 1-2 to PVF-CAND, the Nghe An team transformed with a brave performance, defeating the champion Nam Dinh 2-1 right at Vinh Stadium. With 3 valuable points, coach Phan Nhu Thuat's team entered the match on the "fire pan" of Lach Tray with high determination.

The history of confrontations between the two teams shows a balance when 3/5 recent matches ended in a draw. In this meeting, SLNA deployed a nearly optimal lineup: goalkeeper Cao Van Binh as the main goalkeeper, the back four including Ba Quyen, Nam Hai, Van Khanh and Van Huy. The midfield has Quang Vinh, Enrique, Khac Ngoc, Ho Van Cuong and Ngo Van Luong, while Olaha continues to be the spearhead in the attack.

Right after the opening whistle, with home field advantage and enthusiastic cheers from the audience, Hai Phong entered the game more proactively, creating pressure on SLNA's field.

However, coach Phan Nhu Thuat's students were the team that had the first dangerous opportunity of the match. Right in the 2nd minute, from a lightning counterattack, Olaha took advantage of his speed on the right wing to unleash a powerful shot. However, Hai Phong goalkeeper Dinh Trieu played with concentration and pushed the ball away to save the goal.

After that, the match became more exciting with both teams exchanging blows. Hai Phong had a notable opportunity when Luiz Antonio broke through SLNA's defense, but goalkeeper Cao Van Binh promptly came out to clear the shot.

In the opposite direction, Ho Van Cuong and Ngo Van Luong also created pressure on the home team's goal. In particular, Ho Van Cuong had a face-to-face with goalkeeper Dinh Trieu, but once again the Hai Phong goalkeeper made an excellent save, causing SLNA to miss the opportunity to open the score.

By the 22nd minute, the home team Hai Phong, with their experience, had taken the lead. From a favorable pass from his teammate, striker Fred neatly controlled the ball, overcame Ba Quyen's pursuit before calmly finishing past Cao Van Binh, opening the score at 1-0.

Excited after the goal, Hai Phong continued to create two more dangerous opportunities to increase the gap. However, the shots of strikers like Fred and Antonio could not beat the post. Therefore, the first half ended with a score of 1-0 in favor of Hai Phong.

In the second half, coach Phan Nhu Thuat decided to withdraw midfielder Enrique and put striker Moore on the field with the hope of creating more efficiency in the attacks.

However, when this substitution had not yet taken effect, Song Lam Nghe An conceded another goal.

Hai Phong's goal to double the gap was scored in the 63rd minute. Starting from an attack in the middle, his teammate dropped the ball to Antonio, this midfielder turned around cleverly and then made a beautiful curling shot, sending the ball past goalkeeper Cao Van Binh.

After conceding the goal, Song Lam Nghe An rose strongly, in which in the 66th minute, from a cross from Vuong Van Huy, striker Olaha rushed in, but his header missed the ball, missing the opportunity to shorten the score for Song Lam Nghe An.

On the other hand, after taking a 2-goal lead, Hai Phong no longer pushed up their formation to attack but instead implemented a defensive counter-attack strategy.

That helped Song Lam Nghe An create quite a lot of pressure on Dinh Trieu's side of the field. However, the lack of sharpness in the final situations made it impossible for Song Lam Nghe An to find Hai Phong's net.

So, the match ended with a 2-0 victory in favor of Hai Phong.
